I think we can all ~fingers pointing to each of you~ call this a safe space, don’t you?

Just the couple weeks ago, at my soul group (FYI we meet and talk about how we are in our souls, how God is moving, and where we need reinforcement from the Lord) I felt abundantly overwhelmed. I was juggling a lot of balls, and it felt like even more were popping up — each of them a glass ball I couldn’t drop.

One of my friends suggested a social media break, which was something I’d had on my heart for a while, and I took it as God’s divine intervention that it’s time to take a real life break.

No access to the app, delete it from my phone kind of break. It sounded super stressful, super overwhelming… the deep-seeded doubts of how will I get clients?! Or who will even see my artwork? PLAGUED me.

It felt impossible. This break that I so desperately needed seemed impossible.

I saw Stef Gass (a fellow believer and podcast host I adore) say she was taking a fast. If you don’t know, and I wouldn’t expect you to, a fast is where you give something up for the sake of the Lord in the most basic sense. Most people do food, but she did Instagram. I emailed her saying I’d love to do that! She said JOIN ME! And so, I am. Ironically, I guess I needed another nudging from the Holy Spirit. Welcome to my humanity, friend.

After a whole lot of nudging, prayer, and lots of thought, I’m taking a 30 day fast from Instagram.

Let me be the first to say that overall, I love Instagram.

It’s a great platform (especially for artists) to showcase their work and share what’s going on inside the studio.

It’s allowed me to connect with AMAZING women across the world, and for that I’m so thankful.

But OMG, can we just pause for a sec and get real?

INSTAGRAM IS EXHAUSTING.

What feels like constant changes, constant content-creation, and constant access, constant comparison, it just about did me in.

Taking a break has been on my heart for a while (something I knew the Lord was nudging me to do), but I just couldn’t find the right time…

Side note: is there ever a right time?!

Anyway, now here we are over halfway through 2020, and the platform was wearing me out in so many ways.

SO I’M TAKING A BREAK.

I know God is moving and has a hand in this, and I’m leaning in expectantly, believing His faithfulness for this next month and beyond.

“They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they’ll mount up wings like eagles, they’ll run and not grow weary, they’ll walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31
