The perfect watercolor palette for travel
UNTIL NOW!
Get ready to check that box my friend —
In this blog, I’m sharing my GO TO travel palette, why I love it, and why you will too.
MY GO TO TRAVEL PALETTE
When choosing a travel palette, you want it to do 3 things:
1️⃣ It should have enough colors but not too many to overwhelm a short painting session (or long).
2️⃣ The pans should stay *in their places* so you don’t have to worry about dropping colors every time you open your palette. *very important when traveling, I might add…
3️⃣ It should be small enough that it’s easily packable — a very important aspect for me because I’m packing for 5 people…
Well, if that’s what you want — and I bet you do — I GOT YOU!
The Daler-Rowney Aquafine palettes are perfect for this task.
My personal fave is the 24 color because it’s affordable and the colors are amazing. I’m also partial to it because it’s the first ~real~ watercolor palette I ever got from my husband.
WHY I LOVE IT
Other than the obvious reason that this palette in particular is special to me; there’s a few reasons I would choose it (especially for travel).
☑️ It meets my above criteria.
True story, when I got my fancy palette, my kids knocked my hand and EVERYTHING fell out. Every pan. Every color. Poof. On the floor. The Aquafine palette never did me like that — but you can easily replace the half pans when they are empty with either tube watercolor (squish it in and let dry), or you can purchase individual half pans.
I’m tellin’ ya — it’s sustainability at its finest.
✨ The colors are beautiful.
If you paint with watercolor, you want to know that these colors can have a LOT of value or a LITTLE. Let me tell you, these have the capacity for high pigmented and high saturation. (Which basically means the can be very colorful)
When painting — and especially traveling with a limited color palette — you definitely want it to easily cover all your bases with color value.
Also — there’s plenty of space to mix colors freely when you use the mixing spots at the bottom and (like I do) the entire lid of the tin.
It’s at a reasonable price point for most budgets.
This palette fits most budgets because it TRULY lasts for such a long time.
At $27.99 on Amazon, and knowing that mine has lasted over a year already (painting everyday and painting large collections), it’s totally worth the small investment. And bonus? You have some left over for some decent paintbrushes and watercolor paper.
Now friend, get ready to make magic happen even when you’re on vacation because this travel palette is the DEAL.
There are also quite a few other sizes I’ll link below — pick which suits your fancy!
