Do you know how often people search gallery wall on Google? OMG SO MUCH that there are 10+ pages of search info.

I don’t know about you, but my life is busy and ain’t NOBODY got time for THAT. So what am I sharing with you today, you ask??

Want to use your wall art (or this free print) to create the perfect gallery wall for your home?!

Here’s how to create the perfect gallery wall in 10 easy steps.   Seriously.

PREPPING YOUR PIECES

1-Choose a staple piece

This staple piece can be a painting, photograph, whatever, just choose one thing to branch off from

It’s really that simple.  Start with ONE piece.  You don’t have to know everything about how you want the gallery wall to look.  ALLLLLL you need to do is choose one piece for your gallery wall.

A few questions to help you choose your staple piece:

-do I love this piece enough to keep it up for a LOOOOONG time?

-how does this make me feel when I see it?

-WHY do I want to put this piece here?

There’s no rule to what you can and can’t include in a gallery wall–it’s literally a GALLERY of your favorite things or things you love.  If someone tells you otherwise, they’re wrong.

2-Choose a color palette

This isn’t too difficult, unless you’re not used to noticing specific colors.  I like us use my Procreate app–and I’ll link a little tutorial here on how I do this.  I also talk about choosing your color palette here (it’s for weddings, but would TOTALLY apply here too).

3-Mix and match

The age of gallery walls has not left us, and we can totally lean into that to mix together things that typically “wouldn’t go”

GETTING IT ALL READY

4-Set it up on the floor before you even get out the hammer and nails

This is SO helpful.  Do you want to know how many nails I put in the walls of our first home trying to get my gallery wall “just right”? Umm… enough that my husband finally did it for me (and when we moved had to fill in ALLL the holes and repaint everything…

My ninja tip?! Measure your wall space out on the floor before you even begin.  Rearrange, switch frames, etc.  Do it all BEFORE you start making holes in your wall.  Seriously–your wall (and your husband!) will thank you.

5- Trace each piece on wrapping paper

Another Ninja tip you say? I got you.  Turn ALLLLL your pieces over (you can keep them in the same spot, no need to try to flip it) and trace each piece with wrapping paper, mark the nail spots, and cut.  BE SURE TO WRITE WHAT EACH “WRAPPING PAPER” STENCIL IS on the back! (trust me on this–you think you’ll remember, but you WILL forget, and even if you don’t, save yourself some time prepping your gallery wall and use that to uncork a bottle of wine and just marvel at your finished product!)

6- Tape the wrapping paper up on the walls and adjust until you get your gallery wall exactly how you want

Simple.  Tape it up on the wall.  Need everything to be identically spaced like a grid gallery wall? Get a measuring tape or some kind of measuring tool.  Don’t eye-ball it.  Sounds like a great idea at the time, until you find out that your eyesight is slightly crooked (okay that’s a pretty specific example, but it’s a real thing!).

Tape it up.

Step back.

7- Ninja tip:

Live with it for a bit with just the wrapping paper and make sure it’s exactly what you want. It’s only a wall, and only nails, but you don’t want to change it 6 months down the road only to fill in 32439 nail holes and repaint…

A ninja tip you can skip if you’re ready, but if this is a gallery wall you’ll want up in your home forever? Wait a touch.  See if you like how you styled it.  Tape can be removed, but once those nails are in they’re there–unless you wanna whip out the wall putty everytime you

PUT UP YOUR GALLERY WALL

8- Nail your nails OVER the wrapping paper

Sounds counterintuitive, but it’s the best option. You’ve already marked the nail holes so you know EXACTLY where the nails should go.

9- Pull the wrapping paper off.

Wrapping paper goes away, the nails stay. Super easy and simple. You’re ready to set up your gallery wall sis!

10-SET UP YOUR GALLERY WALL!

YOU DID IT! Congrats. Put up all your favorite things, sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy the pieces you hold dear.
