Truly? She’s OBSESSED with it. She puts it on everything — eggs (sure), soup (why not?), ice cream (gettin’ a little iffy…), and popsicles ().
Let’s call a spade a spade — my two year old has realized in her own special way what we know as adults — salt is an ESSENTIAL in the kitchen. You can cook without it, sure, but where’s the flavor?
So what does salt have to do with living your best creative life? WELL FRIEND (with an extremely far-fetched segue), I’ll tell you.
The salt to our creative life — the essential piece — is understanding why it matters.
If living a creative life doesn’t matter, then what’s the point of this anyway?
In this part 2 of 3 part blog series on the grace-based guide to living your best creative life, we’re going over why it even matters — specifically the reasons living a creative life matters.
If you missed part 1, read it here.
If you’ve followed me at all, you know that ART MATTERS. I go in depth here and here. BUT — why does a creative life matter? Let’s find out.
1. Your brain requires creativity.
This is SO important. If you’ve taken the creative superpower quiz, you know that you’re already amazing and you have been called to use your creativity in some way.
Might as well face it, friend — you’ve got creativity deep in your soul and you need to use it. Maybe it’s with art, maybe it’s not. Maybe you’ve created beautiful systems that ease your mornings and evenings, maybe you’re a rockstar with meal planning — whatever it may be, when you use your creativity, it fuels your soul.
There’s a statistic I love that says simply looking at art is the same as solving a mathematical proof.
Y’all, I’m not even a math person and that one had me …
…because seriously? If we take that a step further, we can see that it’s not just looking, but using creativity that, to use a kindergarten term “grows our brains.”
A creative life matters because your brain needs creative practice to keep going, and keep trucking along in everyday life.
**note: if you’re sitting there saying nahhhh girl, you have no idea what you’re talking about! Don’t @ me, but you’re probably using your own creativity much more than you realize…
2. Creativity = Mindfulness
Ok — I know that commonly this is not the same thing. I know that even by definition they’re not the same.
But when you use your creativity to live your best creative life, your mindfulness, presence, whatever you want to call it — it improves.
Painting for me is one way I spend time in prayer or worshiping God.
Let’s be real—
You deserve WAY more you-time than your daily shower, and using your creative spirit in your creative life can help you practice mindfulness and see the beauty in everyday moments all around you.
Who doesn’t need to see more beauty and joy in the mundane?
3. It’s FUN!
Living a creative life matters because it’s FUN! Oh my goodness isn’t doing something fun just good for your soul?! It is for me.
When you’re using your creativity, the happy feeling in your brain is multiplied. Who doesn’t need more happiness!?
Tapping into your creativity uses the part of your brain that solves logical problems—and I happen to think that’s pretty stinking cool…
So, my friend, living a creative life matters because it’s good for your soul.
I’ll be back next week to share my own experience on the BASICS of living your best creative life.
