A sweet meeting with Carly led to a beautiful collaboration I’ve been honored to partner with her on. Carly is simply the loveliest human, and once I spoke with her I knew I absolutely had to paint her wedding that was everything she had dreamed of since she was a little girl — and spoiler alert — I’ll be sharing part II in July about a gorgeous second piece I did for Carly. Setting the Scene: Colors, Light, and Mood
When it comes to painting weddings, it’s not just about capturing images; it’s about capturing the very essence of love and translating it into line, lines and movement. Painting it into colors that dance and emotions that leap off the paper. I painted Carly and Austin’s love story in brushstrokes that shimmer with warmth, filling the hearts of all who gaze upon their painting with an overwhelming mood of joy and connection.
As the sun kisses the turquoise waters of the Amalfi Coast, we’ll weave a color palette that mirrors the breathtaking beauty of this heavenly destination. Soft pastels dance alongside vibrant hues, creating a visual symphony that captures the essence of Carly’s vision. With movement supporting, light will play a starring role, illuminating the scene with a touch of ethereal enchantment, reminiscent of a sun-drenched dream.
Capturing light, lines, and movement with every brushstroke, I’ll use a muted color palette that pays homage to Carly’s wedding palette. However, choosing these colors wasn’t easy because Carly’s other wedding events showed lots of bright colors and patterns. At the end of the day though, I felt this muted palette gave way to the *heavenly* feeling I was after.
From Brush to Paper: Painting the Details
Let’s dive into the intricacies that make Carly and Austin’s wedding a true work of art. Delicate floral arrangements, meticulously crafted custom designs by Oscar de la Renta, and captivating venue decor will all find their place on the canvas. Every stroke of my brush will celebrate the uniqueness of this Amalfi Coast celebration, infusing it with the personal touches that make it Carly’s own slice of paradise.
Painting these details with an impressionist style requires a special touch. The knowledge of art and how watercolor works classically play an important role. Showing the details without attempting to be too realistic and look like it’s trying to be a replica of a photograph is key.
Channeling my inner Matisse (yes, another master artist) I would use short quick strokes — strokes that have taken years to perfect — to show the heavenly florals, custom gown, and magical details that made Carly and Austin’s wedding so perfect it was featured in Vogue not once but twice.
