~FLASHBACK~
My boyfriend (now husband) calls me, now 30 minutes late picking me up at my house for our date on Saturday night, and tells me his car won’t start, and he needs ME to come pick HIM up… I mean.. Okay… that’s fine..
I hopped into my car all dressed up for our date night, honk (because we were late!) and he so strangely says, “Come inside for a second…”
Well ladies, if you’ve been on this end of things you know something’s up–and I sure did too. I walked into baby’s breath and lit candles adorning almost every inch of his house (later to find out that he couldn’t leave to come pick me up because he couldn’t leave his house with all the candles burning.
Oh MY GOODNESS. Well, fast forward, and he liked it, so he put a ring on it!
When I got engaged, I had NO IDEA what I didn’t know about wedding planning. I thought OHHH I get to be a BRIDE! It’s going to be so fun!
And it was…
But it was also some of the most stressful 9 months of my life (and I’ve had 3 babies)…
Today I can’t wait to share with you a few tips for nailing your perfect color palette for your wedding so you can have your best day ever before your happily ever after.
COLOR MINING
So, this activity I’m going to have you do sounds a little different, but I promise, the end result is worth it.
First, go through all your magazines. These can be bridal magazines (Brides of Oklahoma is a personal fave), food magazines, fashion magazines. It really doesn’t matter because you’re not looking at the wedding stuff. You’re looking at COLORS. Which colors draw your eye? Don’t think too much about it–dogear the colors you love and move on. This is only step 1.
After you go through the magazines, you’re going to scour pinterest. Again–not looking for ANYTHING–just finding aesthetically pleasing photos. Note the colors you’re drawn to over and over and over… this will be an important thing to note moving on to the next step…
SIDE NOTE: I actually do this when creating my patterns (check them out here + snag your freebie wallpaper download)… and it’s so helpful!
Next for color mining?! Your most loved photos, your closet, your home. Notice the colors you choose over and over. Take note…
FEEL WHAT YOU FEEL
Lisa Loeb said it best with Craig Robinson, “Feel what you feel what you feel what you feel!” A little humor you probably don’t relate to 藍
Let’s pause to answer this question: How do you want your wedding to feel?
Do you want it to feel elegant and luxurious? Do you want it to feel cozy and intimate? Chic and modern? Eclectic and natural?
Now, take a look back at those colors from the Color Mining experience. What colors did you love? Were there any colors that were a HARD NO? How do these colors make you feel? Calm? Happy? Sad? Joyous? Overwhelmed?
CREATE A MOOD BOARD
I’m sure you’ve heard of this one, but here’s a new spin on it. You’re going to use your favorite colors, clippings, etc. and create a mood board. You can do this on your living room floor while watching Father of the Bride (just me?!) or level it up a notch and do it digitally. Either way, you’ll be able to pinpoint the colors that you LOVE, how they go together, and begin to create a color palette you adore.
Creating the perfect color palette shouldn’t be hard, but sometimes it can be incredibly overwhelming. There are truly so many colors to choose from, and I know you want your day to be perfect and timeless. Trust me, it will be.
When I work with clients to plan out the colors I’ll use in their paintings, I look at it much the same way. We will go through what colors they have in their home, what colors they love, and what colors they absolutely do not love. I create a custom color palette based on our conversation and then we can adjust if needed. Creating your perfect palette is not hard–it just takes time, and once you say “I do!” you’ll be so glad you did.
And just to make wedding PLANNING easier?! I’ve got a super awesome GOOGLE FORM ready to go so you can get addresses for invites, keep them organized and safe, and not have to enter each one by hand. Oooof… Make your life easier and snag that form here.
